We are seeking a values-led experienced senior leader who can create the conditions for our talented and dispersed workforce to flourish and our performance to improve.

Thank you for your interest in joining Swansea Bay University Health Board.

Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB) is one of seven Local Health Boards in Wales, responsible for NHS services in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, as well as some specialist regional services.

Covering a population of circa 390,000 in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas we have a budget of over £1bn and employ a workforce of circa 13,500.   We are proud to deliver services within a context which has at its heart the unification and integration of care for the people of Wales; and recognise the importance of our role as an anchor institution in the region, particularly as a key contributor to the reduction of health inequalities in the region.

We are on a journey of recovery and do not underestimate the complexity of what lies ahead. As a Health Board in enhanced monitoring for planning and finance; and with scrutiny placed on planned and unscheduled care, we have much to do to realise the improvements we know are needed.  We do not underestimate the complexity of what lies ahead but we are ambitious for change and committed to improvement.  That’s evidenced by our ambitious ten year vision to become a High Quality Organisation, recognising how quality and financial sustainability go hand in hand and you can’t have one without the other.  And how will we become a High Quality Organisation?  We’ll get there by adopting our One Bay Way mantra, working as one team, delivering a leading integrated health and care system that delivers the best possible care for our population whilst also taking tangible steps to proactively improve the health of our population.

We know that our people are our greatest asset and the key to achieving our vision – something reflected in our recently refreshed People Strategy.  At this pivotal time in our journey, robust, compassionate leadership of our workforce from our Board will ensure our staff are well supported within a culture of fairness, openness and learning to achieve better outcomes for those we serve.

We are looking for a new Director of Workforce & Organisational Development

Prioritising the development of our culture in line with our values, and supporting our staff within a culture of fairness, openness and learning will be critical to our future success.  We know that the people aspect is key and central to the successful delivery of our vision and our new Director of Workforce & Organisational Development will be responsible for working together with our Board and fellow executive directors to create the conditions for our talented and dispersed workforce to flourish and our performance to improve.

Our recently developed People Strategy reflects and addresses what staff told us during Our Big Conversation. It has been written in collaboration with a broad range of partners and it aligns with our new, ten year Health Board vision to become a High Quality Organisation. That vision sees us put our patients and service users at the heart of everything we do.

As we move forward in our journey we understand the importance of establishing the necessary leadership within SBUHB to support the substantial programme of transformation we are currently embarking on. The appointment of a substantive Director of Workforce & Organisational Development is a pivotal one; and one which will ensure the change that is needed is embedded at every level within the Health Board.

We are seeking an experienced, values based individual with a professional qualification and grounding in best HR practice and experience of supporting programmes of substantial transformation within a context of complexity comparable to our own. This is a role which will require the ability to operate at a strategic level to advise the Board on best practice, whilst being mindful of the real impact of change on a multi disciplined, dispersed workforce. Committed to delivering better outcomes, and to ensuring Swansea Bay Health Board is a great place to work, this is this is an opportunity to bring about impactful, lasting change to an organisation guided by its values and committed to putting people at the heart of everything it does.
